Are prevailing wage requirements really necessary in Shelby County Ohio?
At the September 2018 Board of Directors meeting a resolution was passed to support Ohio House Bill 163 and Ohio Senate Bill 72. Both were introduced last year to exempt political subdivisions from the requirements of Prevailing Wage Law, unless the political subdivision elects to be subject to those requirements. To say it another way, these bills if passed would allow local governments; counties, cities, villages, school districts, and park districts to determine what is best for their respective budgets and communities when determining if prevailing wage will be required or not to complete a project.

You Don’t Have to Show Up (but it helps…)
Often times I’m told by members contemplating the suspension or cancellation of their membership that the reason for doing so is because they don’t have time to attend Chamber meetings. To me, this line of thinking begs the question, “How do you accurately assess the value of a Chamber membership?”
In business, it’s a necessity to secure a return on investment. Chamber memberships are no different. We in the business of running Chambers like to view membership as an investment in one’s organization. Further, we wholeheartedly believe that organizations not realizing an adequate return on their membership investment should drop their membership and look for other ways to further the success their business.
Chambers of Commerce largely exist to help their members achieve higher levels of success.

Annually at the end of November we celebrate Small Business Saturday. It is at this time each year we are reminded to “Shop Small” in support of our local merchants and service providers that are so essential to our community.

Annually the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce invites its member schools and organizations involved with the education of Shelby County youth to make application to its Foundation for an education grant. We view the Chamber Foundation as an important component to our overall mission. Through the generosity of Chamber members, our organization is able to financially support many wonderful education based programming supplements each year throughout Shelby County. These are education enrichment initiatives that might not otherwise occur if not for our Foundation’s support.
