SHELBY COUNTY SCHOOLS PROFILE
Shelby County contains eight public school districts, two parochial schools, a private school, and a pre-school equipped to assist children with developmental disabilities.
Shelby County schools offer a progressive and personal education program to meet the varied needs of today's students. Low pupil-teacher ratios and modern facilities make going to school a rewarding, enjoyable experience. The educational philosophy here has never strayed from the old and very basic goal to give young people the skills they need to become productive citizens.
Students may be active in theater, music, sports, leadership clubs and academic societies during their school years. Locally sponsored scholarships help send many graduates on to post-secondary education institutions.

The Workforce Partnership of Shelby County is a not-for-profit organization founded by private business leaders in the county. Its mission is to align the local workforce and education systems to respond to the skills needs of business and industry in Shelby County.
Through the partnership, schools and industry work together to build workforce training and 21st century skills development programs that prepare students for local jobs. The Workforce Partnership works with public and private partners to create a more coherent and flexible workforce development system connecting local students to jobs in Shelby County.

UPPER VALLEY CAREER CENTER
High school students have the opportunity to attend the Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua during their junior and senior years. The school serves 14 school districts in Shelby and Miami County providing clear and direct pathways to employment and post-secondary education. Nearly 30 career specific programs are offered in the state-of-the-art facility where every student receives a laptop computer to accelerate academic and career-tech learning. Apprenticeships, Advanced Placement, and Early Placement programs help students continue learning in the workplace during their senior year and beyond. Over 1,200 students annually participate in Career and Technical education provided by Upper Valley Career Center instructors at the associate schools.
High School and Adult Division (see Beyond High School) graduates with proven skills and abilities are a valuable assets for employers in the Sidney/Shelby County area. Adult Basic and Literacy Education offers remedial assistance and review for job seekers and those pursuing a GED.

The school’s post-secondary programing operates through the University System of Ohio by the Ohio Board of Regents. Full-time students may qualify for financial aid and earn college credit as they take the first step toward careers in manufacturing, HVAC, business or health care. Short-term training options within these fields as well as safety and leadership development multiply the options for adults and local employers seeking workforce training.

The Business and Industry Center, housed within the college, is responsive to the economic growth needs of Shelby County by providing quality customized contract training, resource services, consulting, and professional development courses for the general public.
