Are prevailing wage requirements really necessary in Shelby County Ohio?
At the September Board of Directors meeting a resolution was passed to support Ohio House Bill 163 and Ohio Senate Bill 72. Both were introduced last year to exempt political subdivisions from the requirements of Prevailing Wage Law, unless the political subdivision elects to be subject to those requirements. To say it another way, these bills if passed would allow local governments; counties, cities, villages, school districts, and park districts to determine what is best for their respective budgets and communities when determining if prevailing wage will be required or not to complete a project.
At its core, the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce believes in free enterprise and free market competition. We also believe that local governments have a keen understanding of what’s best for their citizens and communities. As such, we fully support passage of H.B. 163 and S.B. 72.
